About the Ranch
Located in a rather remote section of the Sonoran Desert north or Tucson, Arizona, the original
LSR home was built in 1976. With a generator house and a water tower, it was one of only a few
ranchettes in the area. Still, the neighbors are a couple miles away. Roads to the ranch were either
forged by the locals themselves, or they were merely improved utility easements. Even now, we travel
non-county-maintained dirt roads to get into our place. The dense saguaros and brushy vegetation keep
the mule deer, javelinas, and kit fox under cover. We have acquired a bit of the surrounding land for
a total 120 acres today.
While the main house and several out buildings remain a work in progress, the horses' quarters were
the first to get modernized and expanded. Our original stock, brought in from the Ozarks and outlying
areas, has old foundation names showing up on their pedigrees. Names like Missouri Traveler, Black Cloud,
and Giles Hot Toddy. These were chosen for temperament, mind, natural smooth gaits, and lineage. Our
basic bio-security practices and relationship with the local equine clinic enhance the foundational
benefits of keeping up to date on vaccines, getting teeth checked yearly and floated as needed, and the
shoer visiting regularly. We maintain a monthly regimen of psyllium (for healthy gut motility) and
diatomaceous earth (for natural parasite control). Our goal of raising 1 or 2 foals each year, allows
for detailed care, socialization, and training. Our on-site trainer-caretaker demonstrates an obvious
love of horses and intuitive patient training methods. Now we can offer you a variety of ages, colors,
and training levels from our small MFT herd on Southern Arizona.
